Why Radio Advertising is a Hidden Gem
Radio advertising is one of the most underrated ways to promote a brand. Many businesses focus on online ads but forget about radio, even though it is one of the best ways to make people remember a brand.
Why Radio Works So Well
Think about this – most of us listen to the radio while driving. And many of us still remember the ads we hear on the radio. But why? Because radio ads feel different from other types of ads.
For example, on YouTube, people can skip ads if they don’t like them. But on the radio, there is no skip button. If someone doesn’t want to hear the ad, they have to change the station. But most people don’t do that because they still enjoy listening to the radio.
Radio Ads Are Affordable and Targeted
One big advantage of radio ads is that they are cheaper than TV or print ads. Businesses can also decide exactly where they want the ad to play. This helps reach the right audience without wasting money.
Radio Ads Are Making a Comeback
According to recent reports, radio ads have increased by 80% in 2024. Many top brands are now investing in radio advertising. Cities with high traffic are the best places for radio ads because people listen for longer when they are stuck in traffic.
The Indian radio advertising industry has grown significantly in 2024. Ad volumes per station increased by 80% compared to 2020, based on TAM AdEx data. In the fourth quarter of 2024, ad volumes increased by 18% compared to the second quarter, showing steady growth throughout the year. However, the overall increase from 2023 to 2024 was only 2%.
The services sector led in radio advertising, making up 30% of total ad volumes in 2024. Properties and real estate were the top categories, contributing 15% to the total. The automobile sector, especially cars, saw the highest growth, with a 57% increase compared to 2023, followed by retail jewellers, which grew by 42%.
Combining Radio with Social Ads for Better Results
Using radio along with social media ads can improve marketing results. After running a radio ad in a specific location, businesses can serve social media ads in the same area. This helps in getting better leads at a lower cost. Since people have already heard about the brand on the radio, they are more likely to trust and accept the ad when they see it on social media.
How to Make a Radio Ad Work
For a radio ad to be successful, businesses must place them at the right time, like during morning and evening commutes when more people are listening. The ad should be short and interesting so that listeners do not get bored.
